In Loving Memory of Mrs. Philomina Albert (1951–2024)
Mrs. Philomina Albert was born in Valparai in 1951 to Mr. Emmanuel Fernandez and Mrs. Leena Fernandez. She was the tenth child and the youngest in a loving family of two brothers and seven sisters. From her earliest years, she was known for her gentle spirit, quiet strength, and a heart that naturally reached out to care for others.
Guided by a deep sense of service, she pursued nursing studies in Bangalore, India. She went on to serve with dedication at Kuppuswami Naidu Hospital in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, where she worked in the cardiac unit and was among the pioneering team of the hospital’s first heart surgical unit. Her calm presence, professionalism, and compassion brought comfort and hope to countless patients and families.
She later continued her distinguished nursing career with Hindustan Leavers Pvt. Ltd., where she served for nearly 35 years, completing more than 40 years of service in the nursing profession. For her, nursing was not merely a career, but a calling—one she fulfilled with humility, patience, and unwavering commitment.
She was married to Mr. Albert Mendez, a Section Officer at Peria Karumalai Tea Estate in Valparai. Together they built a home rooted in love and values, and were blessed with two sons, Hancel Mendez and Hearnest Mendez. Hancel, who lives in England, United Kingdom, is married to Sandria Correya, and they are blessed with a daughter, Gretel Mendez, who is now one year old. Hearnest lives in Bangalore, India, with his wife Sonika Mendez, and they have a son who is now just two months old.
In a poignant twist of time, Mrs. Philomina Albert passed away just a month before Hancel and Sandria welcomed their first baby girl, Gretel, and a year later, Hearnest and Sonika were blessed with their son. Though she longed to hold her grandchildren, she was unable to see them in this life. Yet, her love, prayers, and blessings live on through them, woven into their lives and carried forward through her family.
During her final days, she was in Bangalore, India, surrounded by love, with her husband Albert Mendez, her younger son Hearnest Mendez, and her daughter-in-law Sonika Mendez by her side.
Mrs. Philomina Albert will always be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and her willingness to help anyone in need. She treated everyone she met with dignity and warmth, leaving behind memories of comfort, care, and selfless love.
Though she is deeply missed, her legacy lives on—in the lives she healed, the family she nurtured, and the values she instilled. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love a lasting gift
